Chestertown Church of the Nazarene is a community of faith in Chestertown, Maryland. Nazarenes are a Protestant Christian denomination in the Wesleyan Holiness tradition. John Wesley was an Anglican who started the Methodist movement, which embraced God's love as transformational in the lives of those who followed Jesus.  "Holiness" for Wesley wasn't reduced to individualistic piety, but rather holiness was relational and social; it was about love. The Church of the Nazarene began in 1907, adopting the name "Nazarene" as a reminder that Jesus identified with the marginalized and least among us. In the time of Jesus no one thought much of Nazareth, where Jesus was from, or those that came from there (John 1:46). The Church of the Nazarene chose its name because it saw itself as the Church for those on the "other side of the tracks".  We embrace this as part of our identity here in Chestertown because we desire to be a community of faith of, and for, everyone - right down to those the world mistakenly labels least among us.
